About Motorola phones
Motorola was founded in 1928 in Chicago, formally known as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, but was changed to Motorola In 1947. Motorola started off making radio-related products including the worlds first walkie talking in 1940. Based on revenue Motorola phones is the largest section of the Motorola Group. Unfortunately for Motorola they have had a tough few years and in 2007 $1.2 billion USD was lost and went from a market share of 18.4% in 2007 to 9.7% in 2008. Motorola phones was going downhill fast while it’s rival South Korean Samsung took Motorola’s 2nd place and gained 16.4% share of the market pushing Motorola phones to the worlds 3rd largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world in the 1st quarter of 2008. Motorola have taken a bigger knock with recently and do not appear in the top 5 in 2010.
Motorola phones announced the release of the StarTAC in 1996 creating the world lightest handset in the world weighing just 3.1 ounces selling 60 million of them and making it to number 6 in PC world greatest gadgets in the last 50 years. After this success Nokia came along and produced attractive handsets with big screens, easy menu navigation and friendly user interface making Nokia the worlds number one mobile phone manufacturer. Motorola phones came back in 2002 with their RAZR range releasing the v600, v400 and v300 with user friendly interface.
With the success of the RAZR range Motorola phones then went on to release the RAZR V3 in 2004 becoming the USA’s largest selling handset. Different versions of the V3 were released with extras like 2 mega-pixel cameras and 3.5G technology. In November 2009 Motorola phones released the smartphone Motorola Droid, the reason for is names is due to it incorporating Google Android 2.0 operating system and due to it’s huge success it was awarded gadget of the year from Time magazine in 2009. Due to the success of the Droid Motorola released the Droid 2 and the Droid X with the Droid X being a huge success and helped Motorola gain back most of it’s US market share.
We think Motorola have had some tough times but we are confident they will manage to get back in to the top 5 mobile phone manufacturers very soon with some of the new Motorola phones being released in the last few months we are pretty confident that they will do it.
