March 18, 2011
BlackBerry phones are fairly new to mobile phone industry but even so they are in the top five mobile phone manufacturers in the world. BlackBerry phones were designed by a Canadian company called Research in Motion in 1996. Well known for their top quality smarphones BlackBerry phones were initially designed for business men and women giving them email and internet connectivity while on the go. BlackBerry phones are so addictive users have nicknamed them "CrackBerrys".
The first BlackBerry handset to be released in 1999 was the BlackBerry 850, it was a two way pager but in it’s day it was a very popular device and PC World have put it in 14th place for the best gadget in the last 50 years. BlackBerry released their first smartphone in 2002 supporting a web browser, mobile phone, push email, text messaging and internet faxing. Unfortunately BlackBerry phones did not really take off until just recently and have gone from just 1 million BlackBerry subscribers in 2004 to 14 million BlackBerry phone subscribers in 2008, BlackBerry won’t disclose how many subscribers they have in the present day.
BlackBerry are well known for the QWERTY keyboards, a large number of BlackBerry phones have them apart form the BlackBerry Storm range and one of the BlackBerry Pearl handsets. The QWERTY keyboards are designed so you only need to use your thumbs to type your emails, texts and documents. It seems the QWERTY keyboard has taken off as it is appearing in large number of hansets from all manufacturers. BlackBerry phones operating system has been developed by RIM designed for the use of track pad, track wheel and track ball. The BlackBerry OS supports WAP 1.2 and Java MIDP, it also allows wireless synchronization and activation with calendar, contacts, notes, tasks, Exchange email and creates support for Lotus Notes and Novell GroupWise. There are many applications available for Blackberry phones including business software giving you secure access to your company emails, phone book, calendar, memos and tasks. You can also get apps for social networking, games and music. There are a number of free apps but there is a small charge for most of them.
Overall we think BlackBerry phones are smart with some fantastic technology built in to them giving everyone a great user experience. In comparison to some of the top mobile phone manufacturers they are are up there right near the top and they can only get better.
